This procedure describes the process of installing rear disc brakes from a Nissan 200sx (82-83) or Maxima (86-87) on a 68-73 Datsun 510. Note: there are two ways to remove your old drum brakes. The main problem is to remove the drum brake backup plate. They do not fit around the stub axles, so either the plate must be separated from each other, or stub axles removed. If you cut the plate backing ignore the step below that do not pertain to you.
If you want to extract the stub axles, then you should replace the bearings and seals.Jack up the rear of the car and safely support it on jack stands. Remove the rear wheels. Disconnect half-shafts in external U-joints. Remove the brake drums and brake shoes. These next steps easier, if the rear swing arms are removed from the car. Use a die grinder with a wheel cutoff date to cut away the stub axle locknuts messed up into pages. Use an impact gun to remove the nut. Press out stub axles, careful not to damage the threads of this process. Press the old ball bearings and seals and pressure in the new. Purchases from a supplier which is equipped with can save you significant money. Don't forget to reinstall SPACER tube between the bearings.Clean all components and reinstall stub shafts and locknut.
