1973 Datsun 240Z history

1973 Datsun 240Z history. An exemplary example of a legendary automobile, restored to high specification. Updated with blueprinted 2.8-liter, 5-speed, suspension and brakes. Original 2.4-litre engine and 4-speed transmission also available. No single automobile has been more responsible for the creation of a new automaker than Datsun 240Z in the American Nissan introduced cars for the US market badged as Datsuns from 1964 to 1983. Early imports was carefully selected to establish a reputation for high performance, reliability and value, and was a derivative of the best examples in their class. Datsun 1500/1600/2000 was a 4-cyl. sports car in the best British roadster tradition. Datsun 510 was a fine sport sedan and a rival to BMW 2002. But it was the Datsun 240Z who drew an entire generation of Japanese cars for the first time and ultimately changed the American car industry forever. Following the lead of its predecessors, copied 240Z layout of Jaguar XK-E — 6-cyl. the engine, 4-speed transmission, rack railways steering, independent rear suspension, two seats and the rear hatch that opens to a large, well-finished baggage territory. The design of the 240Z was simple and unadorned, unlike many of its rivals. 240Z delivered in performance promised by its amazing shape with 151hp and 146 ft-lbs. torque and 0-60 in 8 seconds. At an initial cost of $ 3,500 was 240Z priced well below any competitor in the market and buyers lined. Later versions reflected increased engine capacity in the 260Z and 280Z as emission restrictions required greater displacement and fuel injection to maintain performance and fuel economy.
